Forgive an ignorant foreigner's question, but what exactly sort of garment does the word "drape" refer to here?

I wonder if there's anyone on the right - religious or otherwise - who will publicly acknowledge how boneheaded this sort of stuff is. As Larraine pointed out, Davis' story is self-contradictory - and almost comically so - in the context of "conservative values." On the other hand, breaking with tradition _is_ fundamentally antithetical to conservatism, which seeks to maintain established order...

I don't need to chase my tail here, do I? Kelli Davis should simply be free to be Kelli Davis.

One would think that the school would embrace Nicole and her desire to wear something less revealing. A great deal of this also has to do with that Southern sensibility of womanhood. Nicole is going against the grain by not weraing a "drape" - which is pretty old fashioned anyway. Maybe because I graduated from a Catholic girls' high school in 1965 - we didn't wear a "drape" either! The nuns would have been apoplectic! There really is an awful lot of paranoia out there in religious right land, isn't there!
